Car seats have added a tremendous amount of waste to our landfills. With no end of life plan created by the car seat manufacturers, Offutt Collision Repair launched a car seat recycling program in 2011. Since then, we have recycled over 900 child car seats.
How do we do it?
Customers can drop off car seats for recycling to Offutt Collision Repair, where we first disassemble them. The small plastic pieces are sorted into our plastic recycling, the metal pieces are sorted into our scrap metal recycling, the big plastic seat is delivered to the recycling plant, and the cloth materials are donated to a local artist. The artist uses those pieces for upcycling goods such as purses and hammocks.
With the help of our customers, we can continue to expand our car seat recycling program!
