Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get a claim number?

Yes, please let your Estimator know what other work you would like to have done, so that he or she can make the necessary arrangement.

Will Offutt Collision Repair set up a rental for me?

Yes, we can set up the rental and have it waiting for you when you drop off your vehicle. You will be able to leave it with us when you pick up your vehicle after the repairs are completed. Remember that insurance companies will only pay for a rental car if you have that option on your policy or if you are the claimant. Check your policy or call your insurance company to get the details on your rental coverage and limitations. We partner with Hertz (402-731-2970) and Enterprise (402-293-0980) in Bellevue.

Can you assist with setting up a tow truck?

Yes, our Director of First Impressions at OCR, is happy to set up a tow truck for you if needed. Call the shop at (402) 291-5599. If your vehicle is towed to OCR, our trained estimators have 24-48 hours to write up an estimate. Once the damaged has been assessed our Estimator will then submit the estimate and photographs to your insurance company.

Can I get other repair work done on my vehicle while it is in the shop?

Yes, please let your Estimator know what other work you would like to have done, so that he or she can make the necessary arrangement.

Who collects my deductible?

Your policy deductible is due when you pick up your vehicle. If you are unsure about the amount of your deductible, please call your insurance company.

What forms of payment do you accept?

The easiest and most convenient way to pay for your portion of the repairs is with a major credit card. We accept Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. Of course, cash is always welcome. We no longer accept personal checks or American Express.

Can you match the paint color?

Today’s modern factory finishes incorporate multiple layers of highly specialized paints. We have made a major investment in the finest paint system available, and we constantly upgrade its technology and equipment to ensure that each vehicle’s paint matches. We take special pride in our ability to match factory finishes as the final step in the restoration process.

If my vehicles' frame is damaged, is it a total loss?

No. A vehicle is a total loss only when the price of repairs exceeds the insurance company’s determined value of your vehicle. Nowadays, most vehicles are built using a Unibody (frame and body as one) construction. Our highly skilled structural repair team at OCR can return your vehicle to its original factory specifications. If it is determined that the frame section is bent beyond repair, then that section can simply be replaced.

Will the parts be ordered before I drop off my vehicle for repairs?

Yes. Offutt Collision orders the parts once you have scheduled a time to bring it in for repairs. This ensures the parts are on-site the day you drop off the vehicle to begin the repairs.

What are betterment charges?

Parts that wear out and need replacement with time and use (i.e., tires, batteries, and suspension parts) are commonly subject to betterment charges when they are replaced during the repair process. These betterment charges are determined by your insurance company and are pro-rated based on actual miles on your vehicle.

How will I know when my vehicle is done?

When you drop off your vehicle for repairs we will give you an estimated completion date. You can also sign up to receive text or email updates throughout the repair process. We will call you to let you know when the vehicle is completed and ready to be picked up.

Can I wash my vehicle?

Fresh car paint can be easily damaged during the first 30 days. As such, we make the following recommendations regarding your vehicle:

DO:

  • Wash the vehicle by hand with cool water and a very mild car wash solution using a soft cloth or sponge.
  • Use clean fresh water.
  • Wash your vehicle in the shade.

DO NOT:

  • Use a commercial car wash. Stiff brushes or sponges can mar the finish.
  • Dry wipe your vehicle because it can scratch the finish.
  • Drive on gravel roads because it easily chips the finish.
  • Park under trees and utility lines which are likely to attract birds. Bird droppings have a high acid content and will erode a freshly painted surface. Tree sap can also damage the paint.
  • Spill gasoline, oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, or windshield solvent on the new finish.
  • Scrape ice or snow from the newly painted surface.
  • Wax or polish the vehicle for 90 days to allow the finish to dry and harden completely.

10-step process

A Process You can count on

Step 1: Auto Body Estimate

OCR Estimators inspects the vehicle to find all damage that occurred during the accident to determine the cost of the repair and the amount of time that will be needed for the repairs.

Step 2: Parts Ordered

After the repair date has been set, Offutt Collision Repair’s Parts Manager orders all needed parts prior to the vehicle drop off date. This helps ensure parts are on site when the vehicle is dropped off for repairs.

Step 3: Vehicle Drop Off

On the day scheduled to drop off a vehicle, customers are asked to arrive at OCR between 7:30-9:00am. Car rentals can be set up prior to drop off through Offutt Collision or the insurance companies, so they are waiting at OCR.

Step 4: Disassembly

All vehicles are torn down and blueprinted for necessary repairs. During this stage hidden damage can be discovered, requiring supplements sent to the auto insurance companies and additional parts being ordered.

Step 5: Auto Body Repair

In the Auto Body Repair Stage, technicians remanufacture the vehicle to restore it to its pre-accident condition. Unlike most shops, OCR’s technicians can perform welds that replicate those performed at the factory.

Step 6: Paint Prep

In the Paint Prep Stage, technicians prepare the vehicle for the paint booths by masking and sanding the vehicle. This process helps the paint stick while preventing over-spray.

Step 7: Paint

During the Painting Stage, all vehicles are primed and sealed to assure good adhesion when the final top color and clear coats are applied.  Drying time is much quicker than in the past, and usually can be completed within 2 hours.

Step 8: Buffing

During the Buffing Stage, all vehicles are buffed to remove dust and other particles from the paint. This process also helps to restore the vehicle’s original shine.

Step 9: Reassembly

Final moldings and detail pieces are put back on the vehicle during this stage.

Step 10: Clean Up & Vehicle Pickup

We will give you a call to let you know that your vehicle is ready to be picked up. We walk around the vehicle to show you all the repairs that were made, go over paperwork and answer any questions you may have about the repair. We then finalize payment and warranty your repairs. OCR’s clean-up crew goes the extra mile to make sure the vehicles look like new inside and out.
